The Women’s Prize for Fiction Shortlist 2019

April 28, 2019 11:03 pm

It is here! The longest of sixteen books I mentioned last month (when I mentioned blowing the cobwebs off on this blog, cough – more on that below) has been reduced to six awesome titles that …

The silence of the girls by Pat Barker
My sister, the serial killer by Oyinkan Braithwaite
Milkman by Anna Burns
Ordinary people by Diana Evans
An American marriage by Tayari Jones
Circe by Madeline Miller

I made a video sharing the following shortlist (I may have had a little warning because I promised my lips will be tightly sealed by now) and my thoughts on the title I’ll be embedding below . However, if you want more of my thoughts on the longlist – and my mother’s thoughts – you can find a video of them here.

Well, as I mentioned in this last post a few weeks ago, I want to use the women’s award – which has always been a favorite of mine while this blog is up – and I have a plan. Over the next few weeks I will be sharing my more detailed thoughts on the books selected AND backdate some posts on the titles that were not shortlisted. Including one or maybe two that I didn’t want to finish. Eek. More of that in the coming weeks.

So what do you all think of the shortlist? What did you read and what did you think? Does this list match the selection of books that you would have shortlisted?
