The Best Dollar Tree Travel Hacks, Products, and Tips

Although it’s not officially summer for a couple of days, it certainly feels like it has already hit!

Since we’ve written so many other Dollar Tree posts at this point, it only feels right to write one about travel. It really is a gold mine for travel products.

Not only do they have tons of products that make traveling easier, but there are tons of products that you can use for some handy travel hacks too.

Make sure you join in with your own travel hacks!

Prevent lotions or shampoos from spilling

There are a few simple things you can do: put plastic wrap under the lid and screw the lid back on. You could put a shower cap over it (this is not my favorite). Place an uninflated balloon over the mouth of the bottle, then wrap a rubber band around the bottom. I have a feeling this might work … but if the balloon is cracked it is just asking for disaster!

Hot tools in the pot holder

This can help protect them a little more in your suitcase. I’ve also seen people use these to cool down flat irons, curling irons, etc.

My friend also did this really great tutorial on a DIY iron holder with a hot pod. There are more great ideas.

Put shoes in shower caps

This will keep your shoes together and prevent other clothes from getting dirty.

Binder clip or barrette on razor

Put this on the end of your razor to avoid accidental cuts and damage to other items in the case.

Baby powder for sand

You can use baby powder to remove sand the easy way! Thanks for the great tip from Pulling Curls!

Baby oil for tar slick

When we went to Santa Barbara it was almost impossible to get back from the beach without a tar glass. If you apply some baby oil, it will slide off immediately!

Necklace through straw

I had a lot of necklaces that got tangled while traveling. This is seriously awesome. I could keep my necklaces at home like this!

Snap hook for sample-sized shampoos

No need to bring full size shampoos. Take some samples with holes on the end that can be attached to a carabiner for easy portability.

Caribbean

Glasses container

This is a great way to keep your loose wires and cables in order. You can get small zip ties to keep everyone organized.

Soap box to keep the playing cards organized

Cereal box trash can

This is one of my favorites! Just get a plastic container for cereal boxes and put a small garbage bag or grocery bag inside. Put this in the car for an easy trash can!

Puppy pad

Put this under the seats in the car – it will help with spills and clutter – just throw it away once the trip is over!

Money in deodorant

Such a smart idea from Adventures in Familyhood. Just take a dollar deodorant, empty it, and put your change in it!

Mini shampoo bottles

Can’t live without your favorite shampoo but don’t want to bring it all with you? Simply fill these mini shampoo bottles with your shampoos, lotion, etc. for easy transportation. They even have a little spray!

Muffin liners in cup holders

This can keep these from turning into a nasty, sticky mess. You can use paper, although I would recommend silicone if possible.

Shower curtain toddler pool

Pick up a $ 1 shower curtain from The Dollar Tree, place it on the sand on the beach, and fill it with some water for your toddler. Perfect for toddlers to splash around (supervision of course required)!

cable ties

Use these for luggage to make it harder to break in.

Dollar tree zippers

Storage compartment for seating organization

You can put your children’s food, painting supplies, etc. in one of the seats next to them.

Pill organizer

Use this option to store jewelry like earrings and bracelets so they don’t get lost.

Plastic bags for children’s clothes

Make it easier to get dressed when you travel. Put an outfit and accessories in a gallon-sized ziplock bag. It also makes packing easier!

Water balloon cooler

This idea is so smart by Brit and Co. Just pick up a few packages from the Dollar Tree if you need them for several days.

Gel sticks to windows

We love Dollar Tree Gel buildups … and they’re a great way to keep kids entertained in the car!

Flip flops for showering

I’m just saying it’s a good idea to wear shoes in the shower in hotels. You never know how well they were cleaned or if someone who used the room in front of you had a contagious athlete’s foot!

Aloe Vera cubes

Sunburn can be miserable. This Masshole Mommy idea is pretty cool – soothing from the aloe vera and frozen. I saw aloe vera from the dollar tree, and you can also buy a few bowls of ice cube for little money to make the night before each day in the sun.

Best Dollar Tree Travel Supplies

Night light

I definitely recommend taking one of these to hotels where it’s often difficult to turn a light on without waking everyone up. It can also help children feel a little less anxious in a new environment.

Noise Reduction Earmuffs –

Bring these with you on plane rides just in case there is a crying baby! You can also take her on a road trip if you’re tired of listening to kids arguing in the back seat. Dollar The dollar tree also has ear plugs – these can be helpful while sleeping, especially if you share a room with someone who snores.

Car charger

These are always only available to help. The dollar tree has a choice available to it, and since it’s only a dollar, it doesn’t matter if you lose it or it breaks.

Wall tap socket

Sometimes you can get really lucky with hotels and get one with a lot of outlets. Other times? Not as much. The Dollar Tree has some great wall sockets that can turn one socket into several.

Charging cable

The Dollar Tree also has charging cables and phone chargers. I feel like we often leave our chargers behind. So bring a cheaper one

Dollar tree Lysol cloths

Water bottles

Spray bottle for car

Cars can get a bit stuffy. This can keep everyone nice and cool (and keep you awake!).

Laundry bag

These can be helpful in separating dirty clothes from clean clothes.

Storage bag for clothes

I was quite excited to see that Dollar Tree had garment bags for dresses and suits. I’ve used one recently and it actually holds up pretty well!

Shoe gel pads

I wish I had these when we went to Disneyland last year. If you walk a lot these are a must. I found this in the store.

liquorice

My mom always swore to keep licorice in her car for long road trips to prevent constipation (which is a common side effect after being in the car for long periods!).

Medication

The Dollar Tree has a variety of OTC medications that would be helpful for a trip. We always try to bring common medicines for different illnesses, as almost always someone seems to get sick. Just make sure to check the expiration date!

Small containers for snacks

We got these for Jack a few years ago when we went to Idaho. It was perfect for portioning snacks and just pulling them out of my pocket.

Hot and cold bag

I just think these are helpful for food transportation. Walmart has them for $ 2, so it’s a better deal at The Dollar Tree!
