So I was a total hobbyist and let the second half of the year go by and got a lot busier than I wanted. I didn’t even write about the Cheltenham Literature Festival here last week, which I’m very ashamed of. I swear I should change the blog to Savidge Apologizes. Anyway, in Cheltenham I was talking about how much I missed blogging and how things are now unfolding before Christmas (yes, I mentioned the C word, sorry) I wanted to come back to that. So with a little time I sat in my hotel to kill. I thought we were making the day today and today is an especially literal day as this is the announcement of the 2018 Man Booker winner and I’ll be there … and on TV “live” via the shortlist on BBC News 24 and BBC World the beautiful Natalie Haynes and presenter Rebecca Jones speak. I know. To introduce. If you’d like to see it from 9:30 p.m. UK time, you can watch it here and / or here on the BBC News 24 channel or the BBC World channel.
I’ve been reading the books for the past few weeks since coming back from San Francisco. We have so much to catch up and have many, many things to say. So much so that it doesn’t fit on the BBC show and my next reviews will be of the six selected books. It’s fair to say that I have feelings for a lot of them, the good ones, the bad ones, but definitely not indifferent to what I think makes this an interesting shortlist. So cross your fingers, my thoughts about the winner will rise. I have no idea who will win, opinion is really shared across all social media, I have a personal favorite. But you have to watch the BBC show to see which one it is.
Speaking of which, I’d better iron my shirt and put on my cheerful rags. I will be doing some instastories from dinner and the party. So if you want to see more, follow me on Instagram. In the meantime, I’d like to know who you think will win the Booker this year and why, as well as (of course!) Any thoughts you have on the shortlist, longlist, and the titles they both made. Tell me these thoughts …
