Let’s talk about carrying babies and the Sakura Bloom Scout. Mothers have been wearing for centuries! There are many benefits for both mother and baby, I recommend all mothers give it a try … or two or three. Carrying babies allows you to have your hands free for tasks other than holding a baby. However, I bet you didn’t know that a mother’s oxytocin levels increase during babywearing, which makes breastfeeding easier and strengthens maternal bond.
You have dozen of options to choose from, including everything from ring slings to more structured straps. Choosing the right one for you can take some trial and error. Today we come to the core of the Sakura Bloom Scout.

When you learn about the Sakura Bloom brand, you can’t help but feel good about yourself. The company itself is a small family business based in San Diego, California. You manufacture everything with INTENTION + LOVE.
They work with local artisans and family businesses, which always makes me feel good about my purchase. Their tote bags are beautifully crafted with unique designs and fabrics.

Design & materials
The Sakura Bloom Scout was developed for efficiency and comfort from hand-woven raw cotton textiles and is designed to last for years. These ergonomic straps have an adjustable custom fit. They also come with a removable sun canopy / umbrella. Its stylish design makes it a fashionable option for both mothers and dads.
It’s compact and foldable so you can just throw it in the diaper bag and get started. There are also several different fabrics / materials to choose from, let’s take a look.
Made from the softest linen and hand-dyed. This wearer feels rather limp / comfortable. There are 7 color options with this fabric and the straps are fabric too.
The chambray linen collection is woven from two contrasting colors of smooth, fine linen fibers that result in a smooth, light textile. This style of fabric comes with 6 color choices. It has butterscotch leather straps. This has a little more structure due to the leather, which makes it a good balance between soft / comfortable for toddlers and firm for toddlers.
Soft, ivory colored linen eyelet over your base linen. This is a stunning baby carrier. However, I am concerned about the practicality of the eyelet material for something that is used a lot and needs to be washed often.
The eyelet and linen design is available with or without a leather strap. There are also 4 color options with this fabric.
Made from soft hand-woven materials, this fabric is soft and breathable. You can get the scout made of raw cotton in one of 14 colors and it comes with butterscotch leather straps.
What is “looking for raw cotton” you ask? No idea! I did a google search for more details on this and came up short.
This was the first scout stretcher from Sakura Bloom and is available in 5 shades made from dupioni silk. Mothers can choose butterscotch leather or fabric straps.
Longevity of the Sakura Bloom Scout

The Sakura Bloom baby carrier is good for babies 7 to 45 pounds, and you can wear it on the front or back. It will hold you from infancy to toddlerhood, saving you the time and money you would spend buying a separate stretcher for each stage of development. That’s a huge plus! Check out some of our other favorite toddler tote bags here.
BUT, big BUT, I’m worried about the delicacy of the fabrics and their longevity. More on this in the “Care” section.
The Sakura Bloom Scout is definitely not cheap, it costs between 180 and 268 US dollars depending on the material. This makes it one of the most expensive carriers on the market.
However, it’s designed to last for the length of your babywearing days, and if you plan on having more than one child, the investment can be worth it. It’s one of the most stylish and unique tote bags I’ve ever seen, and the design definitely justifies some of the high price tag.
There are concerns about carrying babies when it comes to the baby’s hips and making sure the carrier provides proper support. All Sakura Bloom baby carriers are certified hip-healthy by the International Hip Dysplasia Institute and have been laboratory tested to meet all current US government, ASTM and CPSIA safety standards. This certification is important to me as a mother, therefore a great PRO in my eyes.
How to care for the Sakura Bloom Scout

These baby carriers are not machine washable. In fact, the Sakura Bloom website has an entire webpage of video tutorials to help you take care of your scout. At the high price, I would definitely want something that has the convenience of an easy-care routine. Which busy mom has time to wash a baby carrier with certain detergents often? Not this one!
However, if you don’t mind cleaning or you don’t wear the carrier often, this is not a problem.
Support from the company
As I mentioned before, this is a really cute company and they are very supportive of their baby-bearing mothers. They even offer free advice on how to carry babies and how to choose the right carrier. They also offer a lifetime warranty against manufacturing defects (no normal wear and tear). Customer service is important to me, and they got to the point.
The company has a recycling program, how does it look in 2021 ?! They offer a gift card for a future purchase if you want to recycle your used carrier. A unique and thoughtful touch.
Here are my final thoughts on the Sakura Bloom Scout
As a mom of three, I can’t scream it loud enough, a reliable baby carrier is your best friend in the first year of your baby’s life. It can take some time to find one that is right for your body, budget, and baby. But don’t give up!
While I love the Sakura Bloom Scout’s history, sleek design, and customer service, I’m not convinced this is the way to go. Personally, I started with a $ 25 ring sling from Amazon (I highly recommend this one!). Also, the fact that maintaining the Scout is so laborious makes it an impractical choice and a deal breaker for me.
That being said, for many other moms, I’m sure it’s the right choice and I hope my review helped you decide if this is you! I am curious to see where this brand is going and what other products they will offer in the future.
