On the launch of my bibliotherapist sessions at Gertrude & Alice

Books

It took a long time for Covid-19 to take hold and I had toyed with the idea of starting a bibliotherapist service with my favorite bookstore in the world, Gertrude & Alice. We wanted to give the Bondi locals a chance to sit down in person over a pot of chai and cake, where I discuss their reading tastes and recommend a bespoke stack of books.

When the virus caught on and Gertrude & Alice were inundated with calls from customers shortly afterwards asking for reading recommendations to self-isolate, we found that now was the best time to start this service. Given that the bookstore’s trading hours and customer limit have been adjusted in accordance with the new government laws, we have since decided to start the sessions virtually.

As a lifelong reader, I firmly believe that books after Covid-19 and the mandatory self-isolation are more important than ever, and we hope that through the Bibliotherapist service we can connect customers with the perfect book without them even setting foot in it Have to kick the door.

Through a dedicated Zoom consultation, where I will interview the potential reader to learn more about their literary habits, I will then find the perfect pair of books for each person. Be it a classic volume, a contemporary novel, or an inspirational memory, a bespoke recipe is put together for each person to inspire, entertain, and even help those who are feeling anxious during this time.
