Recent research says it takes 66 days to form a habit. Do you want to become an organized mom in 66 days? I can’t promise you that your whole world will be organized, but I can promise you that if you follow these 10 habits every day for the next 66 days, you will feel a sense of control over the “mother chaos”. in your world.
Habit # 1 Family Command Center – Create a place to keep a family calendar. Children’s Chore Charts, Add a shopping list your family can add an inbox for school newspapers. Teach your family the command center daily for upcoming events.
Custom # 2 Mom to Do Lists and Planners – Find a system that works for you from cellphone to folder planner. Keep a main family calendar that includes all commitments and activities. Create shopping lists, task lists, call lists. Keeping everything in one place will make it easier when you plan your weeks and errands.
habit # 3 Nightly Cleaning – Perform a 10 minute kitchen sweep every night Put dirty dishes in the dishwasher, clean, and wipe the counters. Clean your kitchen floor with a cordless vacuum cleaner, swiffer or broom. Windex the fronts of your devices and clean and dry your sink.
Habit # 4 The Five Minute House Walk – Take your children on a 5-minute walk around your house each night to pick it up and put away any items that are not in their real home and can be cleaned up quickly.
Habit # 5 Night Time Prep – Prepare for the next day each evening by packing lunch, school bags, activity bags, as well as things to take with you the next day like library books, store returns, shopping lists, etc. Make a list of things to do the next day and lay out not only your clothes but your children’s clothes as well. Think about what I can do tonight so I don’t have to do it in the morning when it’s messy
Habit # 6 Chores, chores, and chores – get your kids to take on household responsibilities without tending to their own rooms. Habit # 7 AM and PM change of linen – Every morning, put the first load of laundry in your machine and put it on the dryer for dinner. Doing at least one load of laundry a day can tame the piles of laundry.
Custom # 8 File, Recycle – Keep control of these piles of paper by creating a desktop file system With easily accessible files for bills to be paid, calls, items to be done, invitations, tickets and excursion forms for your children. Take a look at your stacks of paper and create files according to your needs. Then recycle any paper you no longer need in your pile.
Habit # 9 Meal Timing – Make a list from your families top 20 or 25 meals. Use this list to create a weekly or monthly meal plan. When planning meals, pay attention to your families’ schedules so you know who will be home and what activities will be at what time so that you can plan your meals accordingly.
Habit # 10 Turn it – time it – – Create a daily cleaning schedule that breaks down the chores that need to be done each week. Like dust Monday, floors Tuesday, Wednesday Bathroom, Thursday kitchen deeply clean etc. This disrupts the 6 to 8 hours of weekly cleaning required to maintain a clean home.
